Hi, I’m Peter Marshman. I am a co-Director of J2M Systems, a management system consulting and auditing company based on the Northern Beaches of Sydney. I have been contracting to Global-Mark as a Lead QSE auditor since 2007, conducting audits with a variety of clients mostly from the construction and manufacturing sector. As with most of us, work and domestic duties keeps me busy day and night, but there are a few other key things I like that account for all extra time in my day. These are: family; exercise and racing.
I’m married to my lovely wife Larissa and we have three amazing kids Hayden (5), Lucas (3) and Elise (1), who are constantly on the move and exploring their capabilities. Recently the BMX track has become the go to location, however the warmer temperatures this time of year means the dirt jumps will quickly be replaced by rolling waves and sand castles at the beach.
As far as exercise goes I’m a bit of an addict! I have heaps of ‘hobby’ sports that I pursue given any opportunity. As a teenager it was bodyboarding and I spent a lot of time surfing. More recently my activities have moved more land based and include mountain biking, trail running, and cycling (road and time trail). I also enjoy the outdoors and adventure activities such as canyoning and caving.
To push myself that bit further I enjoy endurance racing. Over recent years my racing has included many 8, 12 and 24-hour mountain bike races, as well as a few 100km events. I have also raced many 12, 24 and 48 hour adventure races, which include disciplines of kayaking, mountain biking, and running, all self sufficient and guided only by map and compass. I like the unpredictability of these events and having to overcome many mental and physical hurdles during the race, including falling asleep whilst riding a bike or having to swim across large estuary rivers at night (known for the presence of bull sharks) because that’s the way the compass needle is pointing!

I have recently negotiated with my wife and family to enter into the Australia Ironman at Port Macquarie. This event consists of a 3.8km open water swim, followed by a 180km ride and then a full marathon (42.4km) run to the finish line. My aim is to place top four in my age group to try and qualify for the world championships. A lot of preparation goes into building up for a race like this, hence the negotiation….that I will be home from training as the kids wake. So if you’re up and about at 4am most mornings on the northern beaches keep an eye out for me riding, running or swimming. Needless to say I enjoy a good coffee and I may even follow Herve’s lead soon and schedule in a midday nap!
