As you know, the whole quality assurance, quality management, ISO9001 and many of the subsequent management system systems standards were built on the key principles articulated in the first version of ISO9001 1987.
The new version of ISO9001-2015 (also called AS/NZS ISO9001-2016 to confuse everyone), is a significant upgrade, as it introduces formal risk management. This is long overdue, and it is welcomed. The alignment to Annex SL is also very much appreciated and will make it easier for everyone to integrate other compliance requirements.
For those of us who have been involved in the sector since the beginning of ISO9001 (alas, we show our age) the requirements remain core to almost every other management system / certification / accreditation standards or framework.
So it still makes sense to build you management systems around ISO9001, then to add (plug in) the additional requirements that a particular regulator, funding provider or stakeholder will ask for. These are typically around additional governance, human rights, human resources, or additional ISO type standards (such as environment, safety, food safety, business continuity, asset management etc).
From our certification point of view, ISO9001 remains our most widely used standard, but also most of our clients have added 1 or more certifications in parallel. Global-Mark remains committed to providing integrated services: one audit, one team, one report, multiple certifications.
This is a growing challenge, but we are applying all our intellect to achieve it, and facilitate “compliance life” for our clients.
