1. Tell me about your company – what industry you are in and what does your business do?
Balmain & Co (B&Co) are primarily Head Contractors within the commercial construction industry. Within our certified scope of operations under four ISO standards we design and construct commercial, industrial, educational and residential buildings including retail and aged care facilities, civil works and landscaping.
2. Can you please provide some top level information about your organisation, such as size, number of staff, office locations or similar?
Balmain & Co have approximately 100 full time staff across 2 states within Australia (Victoria and Queensland). Compared to our competitors we have a relatively young age demographic led by a team of very experienced managers that pass on their knowledge along with best practices within the industry allowing our company to stand out in a positive way within our sector.
3. Why did you go through certification?
Primarily we went through the certification process so we could provide a construction service to our clients that was safe, to the required quality standards and was in harmony with the environment. Clients require reassurance that we are reputable Head Contractors in these 3 disciplines and the certification helps demonstrate this.
4. How did you find the process with Global-Mark?
The Process with Global-Mark was seamless. The communication between the external auditor was second to none allowing us to prepare adequately for the Recertification Audit, rectify any deficiencies identified within the audit and subsequently be certified under the four ISO standards.
5. What is your outcome e.g. are you happy with the outcome?
Our desired outcome was achieved with recertification under the 4 ISO standards. Additionally improvements identified by the external auditor within our systems were identified that are currently being implemented.
6. Are there any other business benefits you experienced as a result of becoming certified?
Business benefits due to being certified flow through to all areas of the business. Clients are more satisfied leading to repeat work, direct employees of the Balmain & Co have a greater understanding of the importance of Safety, Quality processes and the environment producing a better standard of service for our clients that place emphasis on these areas. The certifications also allow Balmain & Co to explore new markets that would not be available to us being uncertified.
